60 Years of Mini Celebration Run & BBQ
60 Years of Mini Celebration Run & BBQ – Sunday 25 August 2019
This is the final update and reminder for our Celebrating 60 Years of Mini Run and BBQ Lunch to be held on Sunday, 25 August 2019 from 10:00 am. The start location is Parkes Langton Street. Many of you would know the place as a past location for the “Terribly British Days”. The start time is 10:00am. I have included my usual table with the Google Map and link at the bottom of this email. Our end point is Rolfe Classic Mini in Phillip.
The mini was first launched to the public on the 26th of August 1959 (see Wikipedia). Our event to celebrate 60 years of the mini will be held on Sunday, 25 August 2019 from 10:00am. The event is open to other mini and moke owners and clubs including our ACTMCC Facebook members who have a mini, moke or some other variant.
The ACTMCC will cater for the event by providing a light lunch of sausages, steak and onions sandwiches. Bring your own drinks and chair and some nibbles to share. For dessert we will have a 60 Year celebration cake in the form of a mini prepared by one of our members.
WIN News and Prime 7 have shown an interest in our event, so expect some media coverage on the day. The local radio stations have also been informed of our event, so listen out for an on-air plug. Rolfe Classic Mini Garage have come on board as a sponsor and will have a photographer recording the day. Rolfe Classic are also providing a few “Lucky Door” Prizes to be drawn at Cotter Bend.
A bit of housekeeping. CAMS Insurance have given approval for our event as long as it is not timed. The CAMS approval also covers non ACTMCC members. The ACT Police have been advised as a courtesy. Please ensure your log books have been filled in where necessary and vehicle road worthiness is of course, a given. Traffic Marshalls (for parking) if needed, will be wearing bright coloured vests, please assist by following their instructions.
We will start the event by meeting at Parkes Langton Street. (FYI there are no coffee and food outlets at the start point.) At around 11:00am we will commence our drive in convoy to…
- Red Hill Lookout
- Cotter Bend via Parkes Way and Coppins Crossing
- BBQ Lunch at Cotter Bend
- Rolfe Classic Mini, Phillip.
Without taking into account stops ie for lunch etc, the drive time is around 2 hours and the distance is about 100 Km. Don’t forget to check your fuel etc before arriving at the start point as petrol stations could be hard to find once we start our run.
Lunch is at Cotter Bend. After Lunch, we will head out along Paddys River Road towards Tharwa. The Tidbinbilla Space Complex may be welcomed stop if time permits and there is enough interest, as will Tharwa. From Tharwa, we will head to Rolfe Classic Mini in Phillip for Tea and Coffee and maybe some Pizza. The travel time for this leg is about 1.5 hours without stops.
The cost of the event will be covered by the ACTMCC to include….
- Steak, sausages and onions for the BBQ
- Paper plates for dinner and desert
- Tea and Coffee at Rolfe Classic
